DIY Bathroom Storage Ideas
Is there such a thing as a bathroom with too much storage? Most bathrooms are small with very little storage. To help, here are a few of our favorite DIY bathroom storage ideas.
To overcome a lack of floor and closet space in a bathroom – think vertical! Take advantage of available wall space to create more storage. Here’s how:
Mirror, Mirror
The best place to start is above your washbasin. Swap your mirror out with medicine cabinets with mirrored fronts instead. These can be simple wall-mounted cabinets or recessed cabinets. Medicine cabinets are great for keeping the small items you need close at hand. If you have a fixed mirror, add a medicine cabinet to the side, or add a pair!
Reconsider Your Washbasin
Pedestal sinks are lovely to look at, but they lack bathroom storage. Consider replacing your pedestal sink with a wall-mounted vanity cabinet instead. A wall-mounted vanity cabinet will have a similar lightweight look, but it will add storage. Wall-mounted vanities have become very popular because they are so practical. Look for a vanity with storage drawers, cabinets, or a combination of both.

Create a Storage Wall
Review your walls and look for opportunities to add shelving. In the bathroom design below, we added open shelving on the wall above the toilet. This is an ideal place to add storage and is often overlooked. We used a basic set of open shelves to keep the look light. One of our favorite DIY bathroom storage ideas is to combine open shelves and cabinets to create a storage wall. It’s practical, offers a variety of storage, and it’s interesting to look at.
Stack Your Towel Bars
Use the wall space above your towel bar to add a second towel bar. Or forgo towel bars altogether and replace them with a row of hooks.
Don’t Forget the Door
Use the space above your door to add an additional shelf. This is a good place to store towels and extra items that you don’t need every day. You can make it decorative with brackets. Metal towel and hat racks will also work well. The back of your door is also another great place to add towel bars, hooks or even a set of hanging baskets to keep small items.
